I don't have a picture for this one, but I do have the link to a soup I made for dinner- I couldn't help myself from having an extra bowl before going to work! What makes this so good?????
It's not a crockpot recipe and it cooks super fast, so I put it in the crockpot on low for 1 hour and then to warm, where it sat/cooked for 4-5 hours.

(I've been writing but not posting because I wanted to catch up on lost days...but that will never happen, so here's what I've been saving.)
Sunsets from above the clouds are so beautiful! We left Salt Lake at 8:30 this morning, had a crappy lunch at the airport in Georgia and now we have landed in Florida. We are that close to the Carribean!

We had so much going on today we couldn't get it all in.
I had made a batch of chocolate chip cookies before work today. I asked Nate to take the last dozen out of the oven in 10 minutes and then ran off to work. Eight hours late we both come home from a variety of events and could smell something like butterscotch. Nate immediately remembered the cookies he'd forgotten and pulled out lovely charred black 'cookies'. Such a sad waste of beautiful cookie dough. We are so very glad we didn't burn the house down.
And here is what went on for those 8 hours: I was helping with a baby shower for Nate's little sister after work-hence the cookies (the girl party). Nate ended up on call and had two service calls to go to (the unplanned interruption to a busy-but-manageable-up-to-that-point kind of day). Nate's parents were superstars and watched the kids at last minute plus took them to the car show (the boy party) for Nate to meet up with them when he finished his service calls hours later.
Thinking about it, it's actually a good thing we ended up unable to get a baby-sitter so we could go to the play that we had tickets for tonight, it could have been another 2-4 hours before we'd have found the cookies!
Tonight Carter and I worked on thank you cards for his birthday. I had him write his name on thank you cards and I filled in the rest. His handwriting is getting so good, he's come a long way since starting preschool in November. On this card he decided to our smiley faces in the R's.

Carter had his well-child check-up today. He was excited to go to the doctor and did such a good job through all of it. He's on the taller side, but otherwise pretty average. And handsome. And sweet.
We also stopped in on Grandpa Long. I finally finished the calendar we were making him for his Christmas present.While there I took a picture of my favorite picture of Grandma and Grandpa. It was their engagement picture. My grandpa is so handsome! And Grandma is so beautiful!
And lastly, today our Mazda died... for the 2nd time. We *just* got the van back after 3 weeks in the shop (for it's 2nd transmission in 6 months). Noticing a theme? Cars are nothing but trouble for us. We need a new approach to transportation I think.

Carter learned about the cow that jumped over the moon at preschool today. (We've named her CowBella.) . Tonight he sat at the kitchen table with Nate, who was working a Sudoku puzzle, and kept saying "the cat and the diddle" while .'working' his own puzzle.

Last night we had a family home evening lesson about how Heavenly Father gave us families to help us grow and provide support. I drew a family picture that I've attached, we have a cute family. Ity it's lots of fun to be living with Nate's grandma MJ.

Carter is officially 4! This birthday has been especially fun because now he understands the concept of it. He was adorably hyper at his party on Saturday and a little greedy today, but he will learn.
Carter blessed our family with so much when he was born. He is the sweetest little thing to me, I hope he always will be because it just melts my heart when he says out of the blue-I love you Mom and then gives me a kiss.
We had dinner with Nate's family tonight. Carter and Uncle Kimball were honored with a special dinner, yummy cake, "You are special" plates, and the kindness of grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Because this cake is evil and delicious all at the same time! I had to send a good chunk of leftover birthday cake down the disposal to stop the sabotage on the weight I've lost - through the holiday season even!
Birthday season is when I usually fall (January-March around here).

Soooo- this is our rental car while our van is in the shop getting a "new" transmission for the 2nd time in 6 months. Yeah, that van has been a little bit of a problem. (We are so thankful for Carlie's insistence that we get an extended warranty!)
But I think bad luck with cars seems to follow us because the first night we had the rental the "O" fell off the back of our car. Now we are driving around in a D DGE.

...are for spending time with family. Usually we are with extended family on Sundays, today we got to stay home. It has been so long since we could just sit down and watch a movie together! It is relaxing!!!

January 5, 2013 Tomorrow brings the first of 9am church. This means Carter's Sunday baths are now Saturday night showers. Showers are a big deal.

Carter got awesome fireman legos from his Grandma and Grandpa High, Nate and I built it last night but Carter has been having a blast playing with them all day!
January 2, 2013 Yesterday Avenly learned to pull herself up to standing! She also did some "real" crawling, instead of the army crawl she's been doing since Thanksgiving. As I type this tho, she is crying because she can't get out from under our nightstand. One thing at a time I guess!
